ALMATY, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- The flood forecasting and modeling system, Tasqyn, has been put into operation in Kazakhstan to prepare for the upcoming flood season, the country's Kazinform news agency reported on Tuesday, citing the Kazakh Water Resources and Irrigation Ministry.

The flood modeling system is currently underway for 142 hydrological posts across 128 river sections in the country. A total of 114 specialists are engaged in daily monitoring of data from these hydrological posts, inputting the information into the system.

"In addition to flood preparations within the country, we also maintain constant communication with colleagues from neighboring states. The exchange of information is carried out promptly," said Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.

"We are also continuing to release water from reservoirs to ensure there is available capacity to accommodate the spring flood. Currently, reservoirs can take in 13 billion cubic meters of water," he said.

Linking to the Global Flood Awareness System, the Tasqyn system is expected to release the final forecast for the 2025 flood season in early March. Enditem
