CHICAGO, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Despite the sunshine, it is likely the coldest day of this week in Chicago on Tuesday, with the highest temperature being minus 23.9 Celsius degrees and the lowest plunging to minus 28.3 Celsius degrees. The wind chill is at minus 31.6 Celsius degrees.
The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for Chicago and neighboring counties until noon.
The service says the dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
Several schools in U.S. Midwestern states of Illinois and Indiana have closed on Tuesday, and students have shifted to remote learning.
Warming centers are open all week across Chicago. Homeowners are being encouraged to take precautions and to keep the heat on within apartments to help prevent potential pipes from freezing, local media reported. Enditem
