ABU DHABI, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) welcomed talks between Russian and U.S. delegations in Riyadh aimed at addressing the Ukraine crisis, the UAE foreign ministry said on Tuesday.
In a statement, the ministry expressed hope that the discussions in the Saudi capital would help bridge differences, enhance communication, and advance diplomatic efforts to end the three-year-long conflict.
The ministry commended Saudi Arabia for hosting the talks, highlighting its role in supporting international peace and stability.
The UAE reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and international cooperation in addressing global challenges.
The ministry stressed the importance of diplomacy and constructive dialogue among all parties to achieve regional and global security and stability.
On Tuesday, in the first face-to-face interactions between senior U.S. and Russian officials since the outbreak of the Ukraine crisis in February 2022, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Kremlin foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov met U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, accompanied by National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and U.S. special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff in the Saudi capital of Riyadh.
The U.S. and Russia said they agreed to work on a path to ending the conflict and improving bilateral ties during the talks. Enditem
