VIENTIANE, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in southern Laos' Champasak province are working to develop facilities around an extinct volcano in Paksong district, upgrading the site to a provincial-level attraction to boost tourism.

Provincial authorities aim to enhance the site and elevate its tourism status by developing key infrastructure, including an access road, service points, restaurants, and accommodations, Lao National Radio reported on Wednesday.

The volcano, located in a picturesque area, spans five hectares and rises 1,300 meters. Visitors can walk along a 1,300-meter path around the crater.

Champasak province has 216 officially designated tourist sites, including 116 natural, 60 cultural, and 40 historical places of interest. The region is also known for trekking, ziplining, and enjoying local products like coffee from the Bolaven Plateau.

As the region continues to develop its tourism offerings, visitors are encouraged to explore the scenic and historically rich Champasak province, a must-see destination in Southern Laos. Enditem
