VIENTIANE, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government, in collaboration with the country's National Assembly, has held a scientific symposium to discuss policies on fostering industrial park development and investment.

The event, held in capital Vientiane on Tuesday, was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith and Vice President of the National Assembly Sommad Pholsena, with the participation of Industry and Commerce Minister Malaythong Kommasith and other key officials.

One of the government's key initiatives presented at this symposium is the drafting of a decree on industrial zones, which reflects the government's efforts to tackle the economic and financial challenges.

In his speech, Sommad Pholsena emphasized the symposium's role in researching and discussing policies to address the country's economic challenges, Lao News Agency reported on Wednesday.

The National Assembly acknowledged and commended the government's efforts to transform and improve the economic structure, which is aimed to promote industrial development to make the economy less reliant on natural resource exports.
