BUCHAREST, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Romania's National Meteorological Administration on Wednesday issued a yellow warning for exceptionally cold weather across the country from Feb. 19 to 24.
Most regions are expected to experience freezing temperatures, with nighttime lows ranging between minus 18 and minus 10 degrees Celsius, meteorologists said.
In the southern, eastern, and central regions, daytime temperatures will remain below freezing.
In the south and southeast, including the capital Bucharest, snow has piled up to half a meter, marking the coldest week of the winter in Romania.
Traffic is moving under winter conditions in 12 counties, including Brasov, Calarasi, Constanta, and Ilfov. While no national roads or highways have been closed, snow and ice have partially covered the roads, making driving difficult. Authorities have deployed snowplows and spread anti-skid materials to keep traffic flowing.
Drivers in Bucharest and other affected regions are urged to use winter tires and exercise caution, as many secondary roads remain difficult to navigate due to accumulated snow.
Meteorologists expect conditions to improve by the middle of next week. Enditem
