BRATISLAVA, Feb. 19 (Xinhua)-- Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's three-party coalition government has agreed on a redistribution of cabinet seats, the Slovak Government Office said in a press release Wednesday.
The ruling parties Smer-SD, Voice-SD, and the Slovak National Party (SNS) have agreed to amend the coalition agreement, with Smer-SD having nine members in the government, Voice-SD six, and SNS two.
Smer-SD has therefore gained one additional ministry from each of its allied parties, namely the Ministry of Investments, Regional Development and Informatization, and the Tourism and Sport Ministry.
Given the reduction in the number of members in the parliamentary clubs of Voice-SD and SNS, leaders of the three parties signed an amendment to the coalition agreement. Smer-SD vowed to use this political influence to stabilize the government coalition and regain a majority in the House, the Government Office said.
During Slovakia's parliamentary election on Sept. 30, 2023, Fico's Smer-SD party and the other two parties formed a governing coalition with a total of 79 seats in the 150-member National Council. Fico announced earlier this month that he would propose government changes if Voice-SD and SNS failed to resolve internal disagreements with members of parliament who have left their caucuses.
