S. Korea's producer price rises for 3rd month in January

SEOUL, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Price for goods and service among South Korean suppliers rose for the third consecutive month due to higher price for farm goods and oil products, central bank data showed Thursday.

The producer price index (PPI) advanced 0.6 percent in January from a month earlier, after going up 0.1 percent in November and 0.4 percent in December last year, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

Price for agricultural, livestock and fishery products among suppliers jumped 4.0 percent last month after increasing 2.8 percent in the previous month.

Agricultural products price soared 7.9 percent, but livestock products price inched down 0.2 percent.

Producer price for industrial products, including oil products, grew 0.6 percent in January on a monthly basis, higher than a climb of 0.4 percent in the prior month.

Price for coal and oil products spiked 4.0 percent, with those for chemical and metal products being on the increase.

Price for electricity, natural gas and tap water stood unchanged in January compared with the previous month.

Service price gained 0.4 percent in the cited month due to higher costs for the eatery and lodging, the information, communication and broadcasting, and the transport services. Enditem
