YANGON, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- A total of 145 people were killed and 417 others were injured in 292 traffic accidents across Myanmar in January this year, according to data released by the Road Transport Administration Department on Thursday.
The figures mark a decrease from the same period last year, which saw 236 deaths and 564 injuries due to 433 road accidents in January 2024, the department said.
Yangon region reported the highest number of fatalities in road accidents in January this year, with 24 deaths, followed by Mandalay region with 23, and Shan state with 21, it said.
In 2024, a total of 2,011 people were killed and 5,576 others were injured in 3,875 traffic accidents across the Southeast Asian country, official data showed. Enditem
