TASHKENT, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan plans to save 1.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 3.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity this year, local media reported on Thursday, citing the press service of the Uzbek president.
"In our country, energy capacity is steadily increasing in line with the growing needs of the population and the economy. In particular, last year, 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 81 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were produced," the press service said.
Electricity consumption in Uzbekistan is predicted to increase 1.7 times by 2035, requiring the country not only to expand production but to conserve energy.
In January, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced 2025 as the year of environmental protection and green economy for the country. Enditem
