VIENTIANE, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government and its development partners will continue their efforts to improve nutrition, advance education, and reduce disaster risks in key provinces of Laos, with the goal of enhancing rural living conditions.

Representatives from Laos' Ministry of Planning and Investment and development partners gathered in Lao capital Vientiane on Wednesday to assess the progress made in 2024 and outlined the strategic direction for 2025, with participants from the target provinces of Bokeo, Bolikhamxay, Khammuan, and Vientiane.

Speaking at the meeting, Lao Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Phonevanh Outhavong highlighted local development as crucial for sustainable growth and poverty reduction, aligning with the national development plans and the specific goals of the four target provinces.

She emphasized strengthening stakeholder coordination for the effective and sustainable implementation of initiatives.

Significant progress was made in 2024, including the completion of 226 village development plans, 47 small-scale infrastructure projects, and 111 capacity-building activities for central and local government staff.

In 2025, the development program will focus on nutrition improvement, education development, and disaster risk reduction.

All stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to aligning activities with national priorities and ensuring the program's long-term success. Enditem
