KAMPALA, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed on the spot and three others seriously injured after a truck rammed into a crowd in eastern Uganda's Bulambuli District, local police confirmed on Friday.

On Thursday night, a driver of a Fuso truck loaded with bananas lost control and rammed into a group of people who were seated along the road at a trading center along the Bulambuli-Kapchorwa highway at about 9:20 p.m. local time (1820 GMT), Rogers Taitika, Elgon regional police spokesperson, told Xinhua by telephone.

"It's alleged the driver of the truck lost control and crashed into the people. The driver and five people died instantly," said Taitika, adding that three passengers aboard the truck sustained injuries and were rushed to a medical center for treatment.

He said police have launched investigations and inquiries to establish the cause of the accident. Enditem
