DAR ES SALAAM, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The number of women in leadership positions in Tanzania has increased steadily over the past nine years, an official said Friday.
The finding was revealed at an event held in Tanzania's port city of Dar es Salaam to mark the 10th anniversary of the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE) and the Women in Leadership Program called Female Future Program.
ATE Executive Director Suzanne Ndomba-Doran said the participation in the Female Future Program has risen from 36 women graduates in 2015 to 110 graduates in 2024, bringing the total number of trained women in leadership positions to 493 across both the public and private sectors.
Ndomba-Doran said there are also 150 women members of parliament from Tanzania's National Assembly and Zanzibar's House of Representatives who have also undergone training through the Female Future Program, an exclusive training for women in leadership positions and those aspiring to be leaders.
Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who graced the event, urged women leaders and graduates of the Female Future Program to take responsibility for fostering trust and peace in society, particularly regarding the empowerment of the girl child.
The president also called on women to use their education and leadership skills to benefit their families and communities as well.
"Be catalysts for development in your communities. Your education and leadership skills should serve society, not disrupt families or negatively impact children," she said. Enditem
