BISHKEK, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan's external debt stands at 4.5 billion U.S. dollars and is scheduled to be paid off by 2035, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said in an interview with the country's Kabar News Agency on Thursday.

He stated that unreliable data is being spread by some unemployed or fugitive politicians to discredit the government.

"We are not afraid of external debt now. Before 2020, we had reason to worry. In 2020, our budget was more than 2.8 billion U.S. dollars, and GDP was about 8 billion U.S. dollars," he said.

"Now, the budget has reached 8 billion U.S. dollars, and GDP has exceeded 17 billion U.S. dollars. Gold and foreign exchange reserves today amount to about 6 billion U.S. dollars, compared to about 2 billion in 2020," he explained.

Japarov also mentioned that the National Bank has accumulated about 60 tons of gold, up from 16 tons in 2020. Enditem
