NEW YORK, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- A federal judge from New York decided Friday to indefinitely adjourn the criminal trial of New York City Mayor Eric Adams following a recent directive from the U.S. Department of Justice.

"In light of the Government's motion and the representations of the parties during the conference, it is clear that trial in this matter will not go forward on April 21," said Dale Ho, a judge from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Federal prosecutors recently filed a motion with the court to drop bribery and corruption charges against Adams following a memo from Emil Bove, acting U.S. deputy attorney general.

The public importance of this case calls for careful deliberation, noted Judge Ho.

Moreover, the judge decided that Adams does not need to appear in court in the following procedures in light of his responsibilities as mayor and the burden of continued court appearance.

In September 2024, Adams was charged with five counts of bribery, wire fraud and solicitation, primarily related to his mayoral campaign in 2021. Enditem
