PANAMA CITY, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- A boat carrying 19 passengers sank off the northeastern coast of Panama Friday night, claiming the life of an eight-year-old Venezuelan child, authorities said Saturday.
The boat was carrying a total of 21 people, including 19 migrants from Colombia and Venezuela, along with two Panamanian crew members, the national border service Senafront said.
Senafront said that the remaining 20 individuals on board were rescued and given medical care and humanitarian assistance.
Rough seas and bad weather caused the vessel to go down in the Guna Yala region, an indigenous province in Panama, according to Senafront. Enditem
