TOKYO, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Japan's weather agency on Sunday warned more snow is forecast for areas along the Sea of Japan Coast through Monday, due to a winter pressure pattern and a strong cold air mass.

As of 6 a.m. local time, 5.08 meters of snow had accumulated in the Sukayu area of Aomori Prefecture, 3.78 meters in Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture, and 3.26 meters in Ohkura Village, Yamagata Prefecture, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

Meanwhile in western Japan, 16 centimeters of snow accumulation was recorded in Maibara City, Shiga Prefecture, as well as in Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture.

The pressure pattern will remain over Japan through Monday, with more snow expected on the Sea of Japan side from the country's north to west, as well as inland areas of western Japan, where snowfall is usually light, the JMA said.

Weather officials urged people to be on the alert for traffic disruptions, avalanches, snow falling from roofs, power outages and fallen trees. Enditem
