BAGHDAD, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Iraq will build a hospital in Gaza to support Palestinians affected by the conflict, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani announced on Sunday.

The decision was made during a meeting with Iraqi doctor Mohammed Taher Abu Ragheef, who volunteered at Gaza's hospitals during the 15-month conflict between Israel and Hamas, the prime minister's office said in a statement.

The planned "Iraqi Hospital" underscores Baghdad's humanitarian commitment to the Palestinian cause, it read.

Al-Sudani praised Abu Ragheef's medical work in Gaza as "a source of pride for all Iraqis" and ordered that the doctor be awarded a residential property in central Baghdad and a diplomatic passport. Enditem
