ROME, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Spaniards Oriol Cardona Coll and Ana Rodriguez Alonso won the ski mountaineering mixed relay at the first Olympic test event for the Milano Cortina 2026 in Bormio, Italy, on Sunday.

Cardona Coll and Alonso crossed the finish line first in 27 minutes and 26.7 seconds.

The French duo of Emily Harrop and Thibault Anselmet finished second, 14.8 seconds behind, while Switzerland's Marianne Fatton and Robin Bussard rounded out the podium in third, 40.3 seconds off the pace.

The victory marked Cardona Coll's fourth win of the season. Having already triumphed in Saturday's men's sprint event, he became the only athlete to claim two golds at the Milano Cortina 2026 test event.

Young Chinese duo Cidanyuzhen and Buluer made history by finishing sixth in the mixed relay final in 29 minutes and 42.6 seconds, marking the best-ever result by an Asian pair in a top-tier world competition.

Born in 2006 and 2005, respectively, Cidanyuzhen and Buluer were the youngest pair in the final and the only team from outside Europe and North America.

This season marks their debut in the senior category after they took multiple gold medals in youth competitions, including the Youth World Cup and World Championships.

The test event in Bormio serves as the fifth stop of the 2024-25 ISMF World Cup, with ski mountaineering set to make its Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026. The Games will feature men's and women's sprint events, as well as the mixed relay, with three gold medals up for grabs. Enditem
