PHNOM PENH, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has found a total of 230 foreigners in raids on two online scam compounds in northwest Banteay Meanchey province's Poipet City, the National Police said in a press release on Monday.
The crackdown was made over the weekend in Poipet, a city on the border with Thailand, after a thorough probe for more than three months, the press release said.
"During the raids, police found a total of 230 foreigners including 68 women," the press release said, adding that 123 of the total, including 59 women, are Thai nationals.
The foreigners hid and conducted illegal online scams, the press release said, adding that they lived in normal conditions and accepted these illegal jobs voluntarily.
Cambodian police were currently working with Thai police for the next legal action on those Thai nationals, as other foreigners were being questioned before further action in accordance with the law of Cambodia.
According to the press release, Cambodian and Thai police were also working together to determine the identity of the masterminds. Enditem
