HELSINKI, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Eight Nordic and Baltic countries issued a joint statement on Monday pledging to bolster their support for Ukraine on the third anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to a release from the Finland's Presidential Office.
The statement was signed by the presidents of Finland, Latvia, and Lithuania, together with the prime ministers of Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, as well as Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, in Kiev, Ukraine, said the release.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, stressing that "Europe needs to demonstrate its leadership." They insisted that both Ukraine and Europe must play a central role in any future negotiations, with Ukraine receiving robust security guarantees.
To date, the Nordic-Baltic countries have provided 26 billion euros in various forms of aid to Ukraine. They have also pledged further support - including air defense systems, ammunition, increased investment in Ukraine's defense industry, and the provision of equipment and training for a scalable brigade-sized unit.
