BOGOTA, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least eight soldiers died after a military truck fell into a 300-meter-deep ravine in the Colombian southwestern department of Narino on Sunday night, the Colombian army confirmed Monday.

"A truck-type vehicle, which was moving through the sector known as La Columpia in the municipality of Barbacoas, Narino, suffered an accident, where unfortunately the death of eight of our soldiers was reported at the moment," said the Third Division of the National Army of Colombia on social platform X.

It added that relief organizations arrived in the area with corresponding rescue efforts, and the injured were transferred to nearby hospitals.

The Army commander, General Luis Emilio Cardozo, sent a message of solidarity to the families of the victims and indicated that 20 more soldiers had been rescued alive.

He added that he had ordered to send an inspection commission to the scene to determine the causes of the accident in which the military truck was involved. Enditem
