Egypt, Zambia discuss development challenges facing Africa

CAIRO, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and his Zambian counterpart, Hakainde Hichilema, discussed on Monday in Cairo the development challenges Africa is encountering, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.

The two sides listed some of the challenges as "high rates of poverty, debt crisis, and climate change," the statement said. Both of them agreed on "the importance of joint action and the need to coordinate positions to advance African priorities on the international agenda," it added.

Sisi affirmed Egypt's readiness to share its expertise and offer extensive support and assistance to enhance Zambia's workforce capabilities in various sectors.

The two presidents discussed efforts to stimulate the engagement of Egyptian public and private sectors in investment activities in Zambia.

Their talks also touched on regional and international issues of mutual interest, with a special focus on developments in Gaza, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Horn of Africa, as well as the Red Sea security, according to the statement.

The two countries reiterated their commitment to fostering stability in the African continent and the Middle East region, agreeing to continue consultations and coordination in this regard. Enditem
