JAKARTA, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- A fire erupted in a building next to a hotel on Tuesday in Glodok, an urban village in West Jakarta, with flames spreading to the hotel and forcing the evacuation of its guests, according to an official.
Ramli Prasetyo, spokesman for the Jakarta Search and Rescue Office, said that strong winds fueled the blaze, causing it to engulf parts of the hotel and fill the sky with thick smoke.
The agency received a report of the fire at 9:13 a.m. Jakarta time and began firefighting operations at 9:21 a.m. A total of 100 personnel and 20 firefighting vehicles were dispatched to the scene, where they worked to bring the fire under control.
Desiana Kartika Bahari, head of the Jakarta Search and Rescue Office, confirmed that the fire had been extinguished and that the site was now in the cooling phase.
"The fire in Glodok is currently in the cooling process," she told Xinhua.
No casualties have been reported so far. However, Prasetyo added that a final inspection of the hotel would be conducted once the cooling phase is completed. Enditem
