SINGAPORE, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The number of scam and cybercrime cases in Singapore rose 10.8 percent in 2024, reaching 55,810 cases compared to 50,376 in 2023, the Singapore Police Force said in its annual report on Tuesday.

Scam and cybercrime cases have been increasing year by year. In 2020, the total stood at 17,775. "Scams and cybercrime remain a pressing concern," the report said.

Scams accounted for 92.3 percent of all cases in 2024, with the number of scam-related incidents rising 10.6 percent to 51,501, up from 46,563 in 2023.

Financial losses due to scams saw a significant surge, climbing to at least 1.1 billion Singapore dollars (about 825 million U.S. dollars) in 2024. Notably, cryptocurrency-related scams accounted for a larger share of total scam losses, making up 24.3 percent in 2024, up from 6.8 percent in 2023. Enditem
