Yak-130 aircraft debuted in Iran's military drill

TEHRAN, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Iran's army on Monday for the first time used the Yak-130 aircraft in a large-scale military drill, for a joint aerial operation of various units, the official news agency IRNA reported.

During the exercise codenamed "Zolfaqar 1403," the fighter jet displayed part of its "advanced and unique" capabilities, IRNA quoted Alireza Sheikh, the drill's spokesperson, as saying.

The aircraft managed to put in "an eye-catching and remarkable" performance in its debut in the drill on the back of its "modern design and high operational capabilities," and its participation is significant to displaying the capabilities of the Iranian army's air force, said the spokesperson.

Iran's army on Saturday launched the main phase of the Zolfaqar 1403 drill. The exercise is being held across the Makran coastline in southern Iran, Sea of Oman and the northern part of the Indian Ocean, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

The exercise involves infantry, armored, mechanized, air defense, naval as well as surface and sub-surface units, according to the Fars report. Enditem
