BANGKOK, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's exports continued their positive trajectory for a seventh successive month in January, driven by ongoing expansion of trading partner economies and increased manufacturing activity, official data showed on Tuesday.
Exports, a key driver of the Southeast Asian country's economic growth, soared 13.6 percent year-on-year last month to 25.27 billion U.S. dollars, picking up from an 8.7-percent rise in December 2024, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The increase in Thai exports came amid a continuous growth in global demand for electronic products and a resurgence in the tourism and restaurant industries, despite concerns over trade wars, the ministry said in a statement.
Exports of agro-industrial goods grew 3 percent, while agricultural products contracted 2.2 percent due to a plunge in rice shipments.
Industrial product shipments surged 17 percent, thanks to major increases in gems and jewelry, computers, as well as air conditioners and component products.
The data also showed that imports rose 7.9 percent year-on-year to 27.15 billion dollars in January, resulting in a trade deficit of 1.88 billion dollars.
The ministry maintains its forecast for export growth of 2 percent to 3 percent this year, citing the expected global economic expansion owing to manufacturing sector growth and rising global food prices. Enditem
