Tunisian FM, EU foreign policy chief discuss bilateral ties

TUNIS, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Ali Nafti held a phone conversation on Tuesday with European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on bilateral ties.

According to a statement by the foreign ministry, the two sides focused on various aspects of the partnership between Tunisia and the EU, exploring ways to enhance collaboration while fostering stability and shared development in the Mediterranean region.

Nafti emphasized the long-standing historical ties between Tunisia and Europe, highlighting the significance of the existing partnership.

The minister underscored the need for a comprehensive approach to cooperation rooted in solidarity, mutual respect, and equality.

He also stressed the diversification of cooperation areas with the EU. The minister expressed hope for deepening Europe's engagement with the region by fostering dialogue with partner countries, broadening the EU's focus on shared challenges, promoting solidarity-driven development, identifying promising economic opportunities, and strengthening connections and mobility between people.

For her part, the EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy reaffirmed the EU's commitment to deepening its partnership with Tunisia across economic, commercial, and social sectors.

She also reiterated the EU's support for Tunisia's sustainable development efforts and welcomed the alignment of both sides' perspectives on ongoing UN initiatives to reinforce global security and peace. Enditem
