JAKARTA, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- A 6.0-magnitude earthquake rocked Indonesia's North Sulawesi Province earlier Wednesday without prompting large waves, the country's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency reported.
The tremor occurred at 5:55 a.m. local time Wednesday, the agency said.
The epicenter was located 45 km southeast of East Bolaang Mongondow
Regency with a depth of 10 km beneath the sea floor, it said.
The strength of the tremor was measured at IV MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) in the regencies of East Bolaang Mongondow and South Bolaang Mongondow, and III MMI in the provincial capital of Manado, Minahasa Regency, North Minahasa Regency and Kotamobagu town, the agency reported.
The tremor was also felt in the nearby province of Gorontalo with the intensity of III MMI, it said.
The agency did not issue tsunami alert as the tremor would not trigger giant waves.
Indonesia, an archipelagic nation, frequently experiences earthquakes due to its location within the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire. Enditem
