ANKARA, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Wednesday reiterated his country's willingness to host Russia-Ukraine peace talks, saying that Türkiye "has great potential in this regard."

The minister made the remarks following a meeting with his Georgian counterpart, Maka Botchorishvili, in the capital Ankara, during which the two sides discussed key regional and global issues.

At a joint press conference after their talks, Fidan said Türkiye will play an "important" role in both attaining and sustaining peace, as well as maintaining a possible ceasefire. He added that Türkiye is a "strong and important" actor in the region.

Recalling Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's contacts with leaders such as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Fidan noted that ongoing efforts between various parties aim to secure and uphold a ceasefire.

Türkiye has supported initiatives involving both sides to achieve peace since the crisis began, he said, adding that the country is ready to provide all forms of support to peace efforts, including hosting talks.

For her part, Botchorishvili said Georgia looks forward to continued cooperation with Türkiye.

"Strengthening our strategic partnership and fostering political, economic, and trade ties between Georgia and Türkiye are high on our agenda," she wrote on the social media platform X. Enditem
