DAMASCUS, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- At least 12 people, including military personnel and civilians, were killed on Wednesday in a series of Turkish airstrikes targeting the Shaddadi countryside of Syria's Al-Hasakah province, according to the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

In a statement, the SDF condemned the attacks, saying Turkish warplanes and drones struck multiple locations, including a military outpost, urban areas, and a vehicle carrying shepherds.

The SDF said more than 16 airstrikes hit the Ruwaishid desert area, resulting in the killing of four SDF fighters, six civilian workers, and two shepherds.

The airstrikes come amid ongoing Turkish military operations against the SDF and affiliated groups, whom Ankara considers an extension of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), a group designated as a terrorist organization by Türkiye.

The Turkish government has yet to comment on the latest strikes, but Ankara has repeatedly vowed to continue military operations in northern Syria, targeting SDF-controlled areas it claims harbor threats to its national security. Enditem
