SYDNEY, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Australia's leading airline Qantas Group posted a profit of 874 million U.S. dollars in the July-December period 2024 on the back of an uptick in customers.
The Qantas Group, which comprises Qantas and budget carrier Jetstar, on Thursday announced a pre-tax underlying profit of 1.39 billion Australian dollars (874.2 million U.S. dollars) for the six-month period.
It represented an 11-percent increase from the same period in 2023.
The group said its airlines carried almost 10 percent more customers, with Jetstar carrying a record number in the high cost-of-living environment and delivering a 54-percent increase in domestic earnings compared to the previous year.
"The Group's performance highlights the benefits of having both a premium and a low fares airline and a strong loyalty program," Chief Executive Vanessa Hudson said in a statement.
"Importantly, Jetstar was able to help more Australians take a holiday for less."
As a result of the strong performance, Hudson said the company was in a position to pay dividends for the first time since 2019. Enditem
