SINGAPORE, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- An average of 338 work-related musculoskeletal disorders were reported annually from 2020 to the first half of 2024 in Singapore, according to the Ministry of Manpower in a statement on Wednesday.
More than 90 percent of these reported disorders were related to back injuries, with the remainder affecting the upper limbs, the ministry said in a report responding to a parliamentary inquiry about work-induced musculoskeletal disorders.
The majority of these disorders resulted from acute conditions, such as back injuries, which employers are legally required to report. A smaller proportion stemmed from prolonged ergonomic strain and inflammation, typically diagnosed and reported by medical practitioners.
The ministry said that employers should take proactive measures to reduce risk factors in the workplace, including providing mechanical lifting aids, anti-fatigue mats, and refresher training on proper lifting techniques. Enditem
