116 dead in traffic accidents in Kathmand Valley in over 7 months

KATHMANDU, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- As many as 116 people including 11 children have been killed in traffic accidents in Nepal's Kathmandu Valley since the new fiscal year started in mid-July of last year.

By Tuesday, 152 others had been seriously injured in 6,581 accidents in the past seven and a half months, according to the valley traffic police.

"An additional 4,526 people sustained minor injuries in the accidents," Sanjay Kumar Raut, spokesperson for the valley traffic office, told Xinhua on Thursday.

Motorcycles were blamed for 3,727 accidents, followed by cars at 1,749.

According to Nepal Police, 199 people across the country lost their lives from mid-January to mid-February in 2,906 accidents involving 4,535 vehicles. Enditem
