WINDHOEK, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's coastal town of Swakopmund will host the Rossing National Marathon Championship, the country's premier road running event, which marks its 34th edition on March 8.

Hosted by Rossing Uranium, a key player in Namibia's mining sector, the event has become a major fixture for both local and international runners.

Rossing Corporate Communication Manager Daylight Ekandjo announced on Thursday that over 3,000 runners are expected to participate in this year's event.

"This year's marathon promises to be bigger and better than ever, with participants from around the country and world ready to conquer the course and make history," she said.

The marathon, one of the mine's Corporate Social Responsibility events, is hosted at the beginning of the year. It has become a popular event on Namibia's sporting calendar, drawing runners of all skill levels, from seasoned professionals to enthusiastic amateurs.

"The 34th edition of our marathon is a remarkable milestone," said Ekandjo. "We are excited to welcome all the runners to Swakopmund and are ready to make it a memorable event for both new and returning runners."

The event will feature a full marathon, as well as half marathon and a 10-km run, catering to a wide range of abilities.

In addition to the race, the event will include a 5-km fun walk in support of the Cancer Association of Namibia.

"We encourage families to come out in numbers to support this noble initiative of the 5-km fun walk," Ekandjo added.

The marathon's growing popularity is evident in its increasing participation numbers. Last year, over 2,000 registered runners participated, demonstrating its continued growth and international recognition. Enditem
