CAIRO, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov discussed on Thursday regional developments, especially issues related to the Gaza Strip and Syria.
During a phone conversation, Abdelatty reviewed the ongoing preparations for the emergency Arab Summit, which will be hosted in Cairo on March 4, as well as Egypt's efforts to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
He also reviewed the plan being developed for the reconstruction of Gaza while keeping the Palestinians on their land, stressing Egypt's rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and the necessity of reaching a permanent and just political solution to the Palestinian issue.
The two ministers discussed the latest developments in Syria, with the Egyptian minister affirming Egypt's support for Syria and respect for its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
On bilateral ties, Abdelatty stressed the importance of exchanging visits to advance cooperation and improve economic and trade relations, praising bilateral cooperation in various fields, most notably the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project.
He also applauded joint efforts in the Russian industrial zone project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, as well as cooperation in the oil, gas, tourism, and aviation sectors. Enditem
