ALMATY, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan has developed a draft regulation proposing a six-month ban on the export of petroleum products from the country, including to member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the country's Kazinform News Agency reported on Thursday.
The Ministry of Energy noted an unusual increase in the consumption of AI-92 gasoline and diesel fuel in the country.
According to law enforcement agencies, between 10,000 and 45,000 tons of fuel are illegally exported from the country each month under the guise of other goods. The primary reason is the price difference, as fuel in Kazakhstan is 17-166 percent cheaper than in neighboring countries.
At the same time, Kazakhstan imports petroleum products from Russia under a bilateral duty-free supply agreement. Under this agreement, Kazakhstan is required to comply with Russia's ban on the re-export of fuel outside the EAEU.
In light of this, the Ministry of Energy emphasized the need to strengthen control over the illegal export of petroleum products, particularly to countries outside the EAEU.
The draft regulation was prepared by the Ministry of Energy under a joint order signed by the ministers of energy, finance, internal affairs, and the chairman of the National Security Committee.
The draft regulation is open for public discussion until March 14, 2025. Enditem
