DAMASCUS, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Jailed leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) Abdullah Ocalan's call for disarmament and dissolution of the organization "affirms peace and security," Mazloum Abdi, top commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference via video link from Washington, Abdi clarified that Ocalan's call pertains to the PKK and does not concern Syria.
Meanwhile, Abdi said that in response to the SDF's exclusion from the recently-concluded Syrian National Dialogue Conference in Damascus, the SDF is planning its own dialogue in areas under its control to discuss Syria's future.
"There are differences in vision between us and Damascus regarding the governance of the country," Abdi said, adding the SDF does not seek to be an opposition force in Syria's future but rather an integral part of its social fabric.
So far, there have been no tangible results from the ongoing U.S. mediation efforts between the SDF and Türkiye, Abdi noted.
"We want to resolve existing problems through dialogue," Abdi said.
Abdi's remarks came amid increased clashes along the Syrian-Turkish border and renewed Turkish military operations against the SDF and affiliated groups, which Ankara considers an extension of the PKK, a group designated as a terrorist organization by Türkiye. Enditem
