MUNICH, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- BMW Group's Munich plant will be transformed into a fully electric vehicle (EV) production base by 2027, the German automaker announced Thursday.
The plant is also accelerating preparations for producing "Neue Klasse" (New Generation) EV models, which are set to begin production in the summer of 2026.
BMW Group predicts significant growth in global demand for EVs by 2030. To meet this demand, the Munich plant will be the first to undergo transformation to enhance the group's EV production capacity.
Currently, the Munich plant is constructing three new production halls covering body manufacturing, final assembly, and related production logistics to ensure the smooth production of the "Neue Klasse" EV models, said the group.
By optimizing production processes and precision automation configurations, the Munich plant will further reduce manufacturing costs and improve overall production efficiency, said Peter Weber, head of the Munich plant. Enditem
