JAKARTA, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government plans to ban crude oil exports to optimize domestic refinery capacity and better manage the national oil supply.

"If previously we exported crude oil, we will no longer allow it to be exported," Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia was quoted Thursday by local media as telling a press conference.

He said that domestic oil processing would align with the capacity of existing refineries while awaiting improvements through more advanced technology. To achieve this, the government would implement a blending process for different types of crude oil to meet domestic industrial specifications.

He also noted that the government would revise fuel oil import permits, reducing the validity period from one year to six months to enhance oversight and flexibility in managing the national fuel supply.

"The import permit for fuel oil, which previously lasted for one year, will now be changed to six months, with evaluations every three months," Lahadalia said.

He added that importing companies must hold the appropriate business licenses, such as processing or trading business licenses. Enditem
