ISLAMABAD, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people were killed and 15 others injured after a passenger bus overturned at a motorway in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province on Friday, officials said.
The bus carrying over 40 passengers was traveling from the southern port city of Karachi to northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province when it crashed, apparently due to the driver's negligence, Saqib Waheed, a spokesperson of the motorway police told Xinhua.
Emergency response teams, including the motorway police, reached the site immediately after the incident, he added.
The injured were swiftly shifted to the nearby District Headquarters for treatment, the officer said.
Authorities have secured the accident site while a crane was used to straighten the overturned bus, he said.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway, while rescue and relief operations continue.
Road accidents are common in Pakistan due to poor road infrastructure, reckless driving, and disregard for traffic rules. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, particularly on highways and motorways. Enditem
