KATHMANDU, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Nepal imported agricultural products worth 205 billion rupees in the first seven months of the current 2024-25 fiscal year, marking a rise of 36.67 percent over the same period of last fiscal year.

The South Asian country spent most on the import of vegetables, which were worth 25.87 billion rupees, followed by rice and paddy at 25.37 billion rupees, according to the Department of Customs.

Animal feed and fruits worth 16 billion rupees and 12.32 billion rupees were also imported by mid-February.

As a country highly reliant on imports, Nepal spends more on buying agricultural products than it earns from exports. It earned 127 billion rupees from exports during the first seven months of 2024-25, the department noted. (1 rupee equals 0.011 U.S. dollars) Enditem
