MADRID, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- La Liga club Real Betis on Friday confirmed the agreement with FC Barcelona to end the loan contract of Brazilian forward Vitor Roque.
The news means that Roque is free to sign for Palmeiras for a fee of around 25.5 million euros (about 26.5 million U.S. dollars), which will make him the most expensive signing in the history of football in South America and give a boost to Barcelona's troubled economy.
Real Betis Balompie and FC Barcelona have agreed to resolve the loan of striker Vitor Roque. The Brazilian, who arrived last summer from Barcelona, leaves after playing 33 games and scoring seven goals.
"The club thanks him for his services and wishes him luck in his next professional challenges," read the Betis statement.
Twenty-year-old Roque joined Barcelona for around 30 million euros plus another 30 million in variables from Athletico Paranaense in July 2023, but didn't join the club until January 2024.
However, he struggled to impress at Barcelona, making 16 first team appearances, and Barcelona opted to loan him to Betis in the summer to help meet financial fair play obligations. Enditem
