MAPUTO, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Mozambican President Daniel Chapo announced that the ongoing political dialogue has resulted in full consensus among all parties involved, paving the way for the signing of an agreement on March 5 in Maputo, the country's capital, state media Radio Mozambique (RM) reported on Friday.
The agreement aims to establish a framework for reforms to ensure the country's political, economic, and social stability, RM reported.
Speaking to the press after a dialogue session on Thursday, Chapo highlighted the positive progress of the negotiations. "This afternoon, we had another meeting within the framework of the agreement that is being discussed positively so that we can reach a consensus and achieve the necessary stability in our country," the president was quoted as saying by RM.
Thursday's session included political parties with representation in municipal assemblies, in addition to those that were already participating, namely parties with representation in the Assembly of the Republic and provincial assemblies. According to Chapo, this expansion was crucial to reaching a broad consensus.
"The parties are here, they have familiarized themselves with the document, and today we have reached 100 percent consensus on its content," he said.
Among the key topics discussed were the revision of the electoral package, the composition of the National Electoral Commission and the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration, as well as possible amendments to the constitution and the laws on governance and decentralization, RM reported.
The signing ceremony will be attended by a wide range of stakeholders, including civil society organizations, non-parliamentary parties, religious leaders, and representatives from the academic sector.
Chapo also emphasized the importance of diplomatic representatives and international partners in the process. "It is essential to involve friendly countries and cooperation partners who work closely with us for the development of our country," he added.
As the signing date approaches, expectations are growing that the agreement will mark a significant step toward political stability and the strengthening of democratic institutions in Mozambique. Enditem
