PHNOM PENH, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Overseas Cambodian workers sent home about 2.95 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, slightly up from 2.94 billion dollars in the year before, said the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training's report on Saturday.

A total of 1.38 million Cambodians had worked abroad as of last year, up from roughly 1.35 million in a year earlier, the report said.

"In 2024, the ministry had found overseas job opportunities for 44,862 Cambodian workers including 17,270 women," Minister of Labor and Vocational Training Heng Sour said.

At the same time, 18,561 overseas Cambodian laborers including 6,934 women had returned home, he added.

According to the report, more than 1.2 million Cambodian migrant laborers work in Thailand, as the rest are in South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Saudi Arabia.

Cambodian workers in Thailand and Malaysia are estimated to make an average monthly wage of around 400 dollars, as those in South Korea and Japan earn about 1,500 dollars. Enditem
