MEXICO CITY, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Reigning champion America showed its title credentials by cruising to a 3-0 home win over Toluca in Mexico's Liga MX on Saturday.
Spanish midfielder Alvaro Fidalgo gave his side the lead at Ciudad de los Deportes with a sixth-minute strike following an Alex Zendejas through ball on the counterattack.
Fidalgo then returned the favor by setting up Zendejas to fire home from a difficult angle just after halftime.
Cristian Borja completed the rout in the 96th minute when he ran onto Diego Valdes' perfectly weighted pass and slotted a first-time effort into the far corner.
America now has 23 points from 10 games, five points more than Toluca, whose last defeat had been a 2-1 loss to Mazatlan on January 25.
Elsewhere, Pachuca drew 2-2 at Juarez, and Mazatlan was held to a 1-1 home draw by Cruz Azul. Enditem
