CHARIKAR, Afghanistan, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered a dozen anti-personnel mines and some ammunition in eastern Afghanistan's Parwan province, said a statement of provincial police on Sunday.

The anti-personnel mines and some unexploded devices, left over from the past wars, were discovered in the Rubat area outside the provincial capital Charikar City on Saturday, and shifted to the police department, the statement said.

Without providing more details, the statement asked the people to inform the police if they saw any suspected objects.

The war-torn Afghanistan, which has experienced more than four decades of wars and foreign invasions, is reportedly one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world where dozens of people, mostly children, are killed or maimed due to the blasts of explosive ordnances each month. Enditem
