DHAKA, March 3 (Xinhua) -- The data shows that the remittances, one of the key sources of foreign exchange for Bangladesh, soared 25 percent year-on-year to 2.53 billion dollars in February.
February remittance is reportedly the fourth-highest monthly inflow in the country's history since 1971. According to the Bangladesh Bank data released here on Sunday, Bangladesh recorded its highest-ever monthly remittance inflow of 2.64 billion dollars in December last year.
Remittances from millions of non-resident Bangladeshis in the July-February period of the current fiscal year 2024-2025 totaled nearly 18.5 billion U.S. dollars, the latest central bank data showed.
According to the data, the inflow of remittances from Bangladeshis increased by 23.8 percent year-on-year to 18.49 billion dollars in July-February of FY year 2024-25 (July 2024-June 2025).
Bangladesh's remittances grew 10 percent year-on-year to 23.91 billion dollars in FY 2023-24.
Remittances mainly come from Middle Eastern countries, such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Enditem
