JAKARTA, March 3 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government said on Monday that the country needed at least 4 million tons of rice to support its free nutritious meal program, which aims to benefit 82.9 million people.

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan stated that the more beneficiaries included in the program, the more raw materials would be required for the meals distributed to students at schools.

"If we need to feed 82.9 million people, we will need around 4 million tons of rice," Hasan said at a press conference at the Graha Mandiri Building in Jakarta.

Regarding raw materials, Hasan noted that each region had different needs and available ingredients. For example, Java required a large amount of chicken for the program, while other regions needed fish.

The free nutritious meal program is a key priority of the Indonesian government with an aim to improve the nutrition of citizens, particularly students, across the country's 38 provinces. Enditem
