WINDHOEK, March 4 (Xinhua) -- The Namibia women's national cricket team, nicknamed the "Capricorn Eagles," will participate in the Uganda Cricket Association Women's Day Cup from March 8 to 16.

Departing on Wednesday, Namibia will face Uganda, Hong Kong of China, and Nepal in a T20 quadrangular tournament, a joint statement from the sponsors and the country's cricket governing body, Cricket Namibia, said Tuesday.

"The Capricorn Eagles head into the competition with confidence, having delivered outstanding performances in recent months," the statement added.

The Namibian team, ranked 17th in the world, secured a 3-0 series victory over Malaysia late last year. Following that, they traveled to Hong Kong of China, where they reached the finals but narrowly missed the championship.

"The tournament in Uganda presents an exciting rematch against Hong Kong and a renewed challenge against Uganda, a team they last faced during the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier. With a mix of experienced players and emerging young talent, the Capricorn Eagles are determined to make their mark on the international stage," the statement said.

Cricket Namibia Chief Executive Johan Muller said Namibia will play the ICC Africa World Cup qualifiers for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in 2026.

"We are also set to host a major ICC tournament from August 31 to September 7, further cementing its place on the global cricket map," he said.

T20 cricket, or Twenty20 cricket, is a shortened format of cricket that revolutionized the game when it was introduced in 2003 with rule changes that put a premium on hitting and scoring, gaining a new audience for cricket. Enditem
